COLLIERIES BAGS NATIONAL AWARD FOR
FLY ASH
UTILISATION
1.
The
Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has received The National Award for
the Fly Ash Utilization which was jointly awarded by Ministry of Power,
Ministry of Environment and Forest and Department of Science & Technology.
2.
The
Award was received by Sri R.H.Khwaja, I.A.S., Chairman & Managing Director
of Singareni Collieries Company Limited on 4th December 2005 in New
Delhi.
3.
SCCL
received the award under Fly Ash Utilization category for using highest number
of fly ash bricks in the country in various construction activities.

158
Nominations were received for Fly ash awards under different categories. Out of
this 18 organizations were given awards. SCCL is the only mining company in the
country which received this award.

SCCL
is making continuous efforts towards a sustainable environment by various Eco-Friendly
Mining practices. Utilization of
Fly-Ash – A potential pollutant is a step in that direction. The use of
traditional bricks has been replaced with Fly ash bricks in all the
construction activities in the company progressively from 2001.

SCCL
has used 531 lakh Fly Ash bricks in its various construction activities from
April 2002 to September 2005. 10.62
Million Cu.M of Fly Ash was used to manufacture these bricks by the brick
manufacturers.

Apart from this 31,540 Cu.M of Fly Ash was
also used for stowing operation in UG mines as Mine Fill in Prakasham Khani-1
incline, Manuguru and GDK 6A incline, Godavarikhani.

SCCL
has made it a policy to use only Fly ash bricks for the constructions like
Office buildings, Public buildings, drains, sanitation works, compound walls,
dwellings, underground workings such as isolation and ventilation stoppings
etc.

These bricks are being procured by the civil
contractors from the 49 Fly Ash brick
manufacturing units located near
Kothagudem, Manuguru, Yellandu and Godavarikhani.
10.
The
brick manufacturing units are collecting the Fly Ash from Kothagudem Thermal
Power station (KTPS), Navabharath Ferro Alloys, Badrachalam Paper Boards, Heavy
Water Plant, Manuguru and Ramagundam Thermal Power Station (RTPS).
