EMERGING SCENARIO

LONGWALL | OPENCAST

INPIT CRUSHER CONVEYOR | SHAFT MINING | EMERGING SCENARIO

Consequent to the mechanization policy adopted , the emerging technological scenario is a combination of mechanized Opencast mining ,mechanized longwall mining is a conventional as well as mechanized bord & pillar mining and some special methods. Mechanized opencasting is capable of yielding quick results . mechanized Opencast output which is estimated at 5.715mt in 1989-90 is targeted to produce 13.445 Mt by 1994-95, an increase by 135 percent in a span of five years

For 1999-2000 the output is estimated at 14.995 Mt, an increase of 11.57 percent over the Opencast output in 1994-95. This is because the new shallow deposits amenable to Opencast methods will be more or less over.

However , during the VIII plan the contribution of Opencast mines to the total production will go up from 26.58 percent 1989-90 to 40.01 percent in 1994-95. But thereafter the contribution of Opencast mines will go down slightly and stand at 39.68 percent by 1999-2000 AD

Contribution of conventional bord and pillar methods to the total production of SCCL is to go down progressively . however , a production of around 12 tp 13 Mt. throughout VIII and IX plan periods would still continue . this production will come mainly from the existing group of mines and mines of V and VI plan projects , most of which have been developed by the conventional bord and pillar methods and are to be depillared in the coming years. However , due to geo-mining compulsion some small mines are to be planned in the IX plan with conventional bord and pillars technology in the new Greenfield areas

Intermediate technology i.e. “Mechanized Board and Pillar” is planned in two projects in the coming years, in addition to the on-going schemes. These are GDK 8 incline and Padmavathi Khani, both of which will be implemented by 1990-91. As per the technical opinion ,the layout of bord and pillar workings inhibit, intrinsically, any large scale mechanization. Therefore , no mine has been projected for mechanized bord and pillar system after 1990-91. And production from this group remains at 1.06 Mt. till turn of this century.

As for mechanized longwall mining, the mining community the world over has accepted it as the most prospective method of mining. The SCCL longwall output which was 0.461 Mt. in 1988-89, is expected to considerable increase every year and is estimated to yield 6.42 Mt. in 1994-95,9.26 Mt. in 1999-2000 and 11.83 Mt. in 2004-05.

As for other methods , as special method is to contribute 0.280 Mt. from 1990-91 to 1999-2000. This will come from the blasting gallery method at GDK.10 incline Ramagundam. This is a method developed with collaboration with CdF, France and is designed to exploit to work other thick seams. But as the method is not yet established , no additional output is projected at this stage under this head up to 2000 AD.
